Walter Schmidt also Schmidt-Tschuppert (* March 20, 1912 in Bern ; † July 20, 1996 in Menziken ), reformed , entitled to reside in Bern, was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Family and work

Walter Schmidt, son of Ewald Schmidt and Marie-born Dähler, completed a degree in civil engineering after having passed the Matura . Schmidt then headed his own structural and civil engineering office in Lenzburg . Walter Schmidt - he married Elfriede, daughter of Gottfried Aeschlimann, in his first marriage in 1936, and Rita, daughter of Alfred Tschuppert in 1986 - died on July 20, 1996 four months after he was 84 years old in Lenzburg.

Political career

The member of the Social Democratic Party (SP) had a seat in the Aargau Grand Council from 1949 to 1964 . In 1963 the people elected him to the National Council , to which he belonged until 1971. Schmidt's political commitment, who was active all his life in the social housing cooperative Lenzburg, was aimed at the less privileged at the national level, especially families with many children, as well as social housing. Walter Schmidt played a leading role in drafting the Federal Home Ownership Act of 1974.
