Walter Signer

Walter Signer (born May 25, 1937 in Zurich ) is a former cyclist from Switzerland and national cycling champion .

Athletic career

Signer began cycling in 1954 , a year later he had qualified for the then A-class of amateurs in Switzerland and won two championship titles with his club RV Höngg . He was a member of the championship teams in the team time trial on the road as well as in the team pursuit on the track. He was able to repeat this championship double in 1959 with RV Zurich . In 1958 he won the Geneva Grand Prix . In 1960 he won the reservoir tour and started the team pursuit on the track at the Summer Olympics in Rome . At the end of 1960 he broke a contract as an independent in order to be able to take part in the races of professional drivers. However, he did not receive a contract in a professional team, so he drove on his own account. He started in the domestic Tour de Suisse in 1963 , but retired. In 1965 he ended his career.

Professional

Signer completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith.
