Career

Career in Meiderich

When exactly Spiering was accepted into the first team of Meidericher SV is not known. At least since 1924, however, he was a member and by the 1926/27 season he had secured a regular place in the position of the right winger . With the MSV, he played in the Niederrhein district league, the top division at the time, always for the title and failed several times. This changed when the first Lower Rhine championship in the club's history was won at the end of the 1928/29 season. This allowed Meiderich to take part in the West German championship . With a 4-2 win against FC Schalke 04 , to which Spiering was able to contribute a goal, qualification for the German championship finals of 1929 was achieved; in West Germany, the team ultimately took second place. In the nationwide round of 16, the MSV met the reigning champions Hamburger SV with the help of Spiering on June 16 and were narrowly inferior to them 2: 3.

Then there was a fight to defend the title on the Lower Rhine, but Homberger SV was able to prevail in 1930. A year later, on the other hand, he won the title again and with a third place in the West German finals he qualified for the German championship in 1931 . Against the first round opponent TSV 1860 Munich , the striker was on the field and suffered a 1: 4 defeat. It is not known whether and for how long he played for the club beyond 1931.

During World War II he was used on the Eastern Front and was permanently missing after he disappeared there. It was not until the beginning of the 1960s, around 15 years after the end of the war, that he returned and caused a stir at his former football club.

As a selection player

Spiering was never considered for the German senior national team , but he ran at least once for a West German selection. With this he met a selection from the eastern Netherlands in Arnhem in May 1931 and was initially not intended for the first team, but replaced the injured Stanislaus Kobierski during the friendly game . The prominent team was able to win 3-0 in the neighboring country.
