Damatrios (month)

Damatrios ( Greek  Δαμάτριος ) is a month in several Greek calendars .

There are many inscriptions for the Boeotian calendar , but it also appears in the Arcadian , Western Greek and Cretan calendars . In the Boeotian year it was the eleventh month after Pamboiotios and before Alalkomenios , in the Julian calendar it roughly corresponds to the month of November . In an inscription from an unknown polis from Arcadia , it appears in the fourth position between Panios and Badromios , but its location in the year is difficult. On the one hand, only the seventh month of Krokagorios gives an indication of his position in the year, since it is the harvest month of the saffron , probably October. On the other hand, the traditional calendar contains thirteen months, a year with a leap month , without indicating which month this is. In any case, it is a summer month in the Arcadian Damatrios. A number of financial documents from Lokroi Epizephyrioi are known for western Greece , in which the Damatrios appears together with other months. It could be deduced that he stood here after Agreios and before Herakleios , his position in the year is unclear. In Crete , Damatrios is the only month name in a cult law from Eleutherna , further statements about him are not possible due to the unique occurrence and the complexity of the Cretan calendar system.
