Life

Walter Trice grew up in Tennessee. His father had worked on the development of the atom bomb . Trice attended Wesleyan University from 1966 to 1970 with a major in mathematics.

Since he could not find a job as a mathematician, Trice worked for an insurance company from 1970 to 1988. Between 1982 and 1985 he worked for a software company in Indianapolis . There he learned to play backgammon. From 1988 he lived secluded in Massachusetts; he wrote articles on backgammon and software.

Walter Trice won several tournaments, including Indianapolis in April 1991, Indianapolis Labor Day 1993 and the NEBC Championship in June 1991.

It wasn't until August 21, 2009, two days before his sudden death, that he published his last Gammonvillage article ( Cubes After an Endgame Hit ). Trice has published articles regularly on other backgammon community sites as well. Walter Trice died unexpectedly on August 23, 2009.

Backgammon Boot Camp

His book Backgammon Boot Camp is a comprehensive work with the help of which one can develop from a beginner to a tournament player.

The book grew out of a series of articles in a backgammon community for which Trice had been a columnist for many years. After having examined the essential principles and strategies of backgammon in detail in his column since 2002, this series turned out to be extremely popular with readers. Hence the idea arose to bring the content of the articles into book form. One of the most important standard works on modern backgammon was created since the publication of the backgammon "Bible" by Paul Magriel in 1974.
