Walter Zeh
Walter Zeh (born 1941 or 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian bass player and choir director . In 2006 he founded the Philharmonia Choir Vienna .
life and work
Zeh studied at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
In 1970 he was engaged at the Vienna State Opera , where he sang small parts for 32 years, including 75 times the customs guard in La Bohème , 63 times one of the four waiters in the Rosenkavalier and 45 times one of the four lackeys of the Feldmarschallin, 34- once a Flemish deputy in Don Carlos , 31 times the Cappadocier in Salome , 29 times one of the four Brabant nobles in Lohengrin , 29 times the Jankel in Arabella , 25 times the turnkey in Tosca , 18 times one of the Guardsmen in Manon and 6 times the second prisoner in Fidelio .
He has also made guest appearances as a soloist at major opera houses, including the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Scala in Milan , the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Opéra Bastille and the Palais Garnier in Paris, and also at the Salzburg Festival (see above) e.g. 1973 and 1976 in Idomeneo and 1992 in Z Mrtvého Domu ), furthermore at the Salzburg Easter Festival and in Japan .
Even during his engagement at the Vienna State Opera he was interested in working with vocal ensembles and choirs . Zeh founded various ensembles such as Herren Drei- und Viergesang (with annual performances in the run-up to Christmas in Austria and Israel), the vocal ensemble Frieden (in November 2002 in the Burgtheater ) and the vocal ensemble Concordia (in June 2003 with a historical serenade at Kreuzenstein Castle ). Since 1997 he has been the artistic director of the Vienna Neubau Choir Association . Walter Zeh also works as a singing teacher and language coach for opera productions. a. at the Opéra Bastille , as well as at the Salzburg Festival and the Easter Festival . As a freelance choir director, he has worked on productions a. a. for the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden , the Paris Théâtre des Champs-Elysées , the Ruhr Triennale , the Salzburg Festival , the Bremen Music Festival , the Lucerne Festival , the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Konzerthaus Dortmund , the Festspielhaus St. Pölten and Vienna Musikverein with . In 2006 Walter Zeh founded the Philharmonia Choir Vienna .
