Walther Hug Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The "Walther Hug Prize" is a science prize organized by the "Professor Walther Hug Foundation for the Promotion of Legal Research" , which is awarded to Swiss researchers who have distinguished themselves through legal achievements.

The St. Gallen jurist Walther Hug set up a foundation named after him while he was still alive and bequeathed almost all of his assets to it after his death.

According to the foundation's statutes, people who are Swiss nationals and who work at domestic or foreign universities or at other universities or research institutes or who do free research can be considered as award winners. The professors in office at Swiss universities and colleges at the time the foundation was established (1978) are excluded.

A jury consisting of five professors chosen by the Board of Trustees, who come from five Swiss universities and represent the various disciplines, evaluates the candidates. The award, endowed with at least CHF 20,000, is  then awarded by the Board of Trustees .

The “(great) Walther Hug Prize” should not be confused with the “ Professor Walther Hug Prize ” awarded annually by the same foundation for several legal dissertations .
