Niklaus Schmid (lawyer)

Niklaus Schmid (born July 25, 1936 , legal resident in Trasadingen and Zurich ) is a Swiss legal scholar .

Schmid studied law at the University of Zurich and received his doctorate in 1961 under Max Guldener . Before he was appointed full professor of criminal law , criminal procedural law and criminology at his alma mater in 1983 , where he taught until his retirement in 1999, he worked as a lawyer , investigating judge , district attorney , public prosecutor and chief judge.

Schmid played a key role in the creation of the standardized code of criminal procedure and, in particular, wrote the preliminary draft on behalf of the Federal Department of Justice and Police . He wrote a manual and a practical comment on the law that was passed on October 19, 2007 and came into force on January 1, 2011. The latter appeared in the 2nd edition in 2013.
