Walther Neumann

Walther Carl Julius Neumann , (born August 8, 1888 in Rostock , † June 13, 1951 in Berlin ) was a German historian and high school director.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1906, he studied in Rostock and Munich. In 1911 he passed the state examination in Latin, Greek and history. In 1913 he received his doctorate with a historical thesis at the University of Rostock . During the First World War he became a first lieutenant in 1918. After the war he first worked at the grammar school in Schwerin, in 1924 he became director of the large city school Rostock , the traditional humanistic grammar school of Rostock. Although he belonged to one of the democratic parties in the Weimar Republic, the National Socialists left him in office in 1933. After 1945 Neumann headed the modern and old language branches of all Rostock high schools as director. In 1948 he was replaced as director by the communist Eggert, but worked as a Latin and Greek teacher in Rostock until he graduated from high school in 1950. He then left Rostock and was transferred to the Academy of Sciences in Berlin . He died in Berlin on June 13, 1951. He also wrote books in the Low German language.
