Roller cover

The roller cover was used in World War II for use in battle tanks , assault guns and tank destroyers .

General

As the name suggests, the tank gun was housed in a roller. This enabled massive additional armor to be achieved at the interface between the gun and turret, and projectiles that hit it were deflected due to the favorable design. The possibility of a larger leveling range was advantageous. The very small side straightening range was a disadvantage. In a fire fight, the entire vehicle always had to be turned to quickly change sides. This problem did not apply to tanks with rotating turrets.
