Wang Hongju

Wang Hongju ( Chinese  王鴻 舉  /  王鸿 举 , Pinyin Wáng Hóngjǔ , born October 1945 in Yuzhong , Chongqing (China)) was the mayor of Chongqing from 2003 to 2009 and has been a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China since 2002 .

Wang graduated from Sichuan University with a degree in mathematics in 1968 . After joining the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1979, Wang initially took up low posts, but slowly rose through the party hierarchy. In 1997, he became the deputy party secretary and deputy mayor of Chongqing.

From October 2002 he initially took over the official business as mayor of Chongqing and was officially confirmed in January 2003 at the Chongqing People's Congress. He held this office until 2009.

He has been a member of the CCP Central Committee since 2002. Since 2003 he has been a member of the National People's Congress and since 2009 deputy chairman of its committee for environmental and resource protection.
