Wang Jianzhong

Wang Jianzhong ( Chinese  王建中 , Pinyin Wáng Jiànzhōng ; * 1933 in Shanghai , † 2016 in Santa Fe , New Mexico ) was a Chinese composer and pianist . He started playing the piano at the age of 10 . He later studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music . He tried to combine traditional Chinese composition techniques with western classical modern composition techniques and in doing so to explore new avenues for piano music . He created a large number of piano works. In particular, his piano arrangements of Chinese folk songs were widely received, for example the Five Folk Songs from Yunnan ( Yunnan minge wu shou ).

In 1995 Wang Jianzhong's Collected Piano Works were published .
