Wani is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra . The city is located in the Vidarbha region .

The city is part of the Yavatmal district . Wani has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 25 wards . It had a total of 58,840 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 29,973 were men and 28,867 women. Hindus form the largest group of the city's population with a share of over 75%, followed by Muslims with over 13%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 91.44%, well above the national average.

The city's economy is mainly driven by agriculture and mining in the area. The city is nicknamed "Black Diamond City" because of the huge coal deposits and many coal mines in the adjacent areas.

Wani Station is part of the Central Railway Zone.
