Wankum land peace

The Wankumer Landfriede was a contract between Duke Johann I of Brabant, Archbishop Siegfried von Westerburg , Count Dietrich von Kleve and Count Rainald I von Geldern .

On August 28, 1279 , the rulers of the states between the Rhine and Schelde met in the small village of Wankum , which today belongs to the municipality of Wachtendonk in the Kleve district, to sign a treaty to combat counterfeiting and robber baronism. He obliged the parties to provide mutual assistance.
