coat of arms
Coat of arms from 1869
The first coat of arms of Chorzow was the Prussian royal herald Office designed and the city on October 18 in 1869 by the Prussian King Wilhelm I awarded.
The city's coat of arms was split, gold on the front and red on the back. In the front golden field there was a half black eagle ( Silesian eagle ), which represented the relationship between Königshütte and Silesia . In the rear red field there was a golden crown at the top and in the middle a golden W. The monogram stood for Wilhelm I. Below were the crossed miner's tools mallets and irons , which symbolized the importance of mining. The upper coat of arms included a wall crown and a miner with a mallet and a smelter with a staff as a shield holder .

Current coat of arms
In 1922 Königshütte and the eastern part of Upper Silesia fell to Poland and was renamed Królewska Huta . The previous coat of arms was provisionally used in various modified variations. In order to erase the German past of the city, the city took on its name on May 16, 1934 after the incorporation of the village Chorzów . The coat of arms should also be replaced by a new one. Prof. Dąbrowski won a competition held for this purpose with students from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. In addition to the golden eagle of the Upper Silesian Piasts, the red cross of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem , which was borrowed from the seal of the village of Chorzów, was used. This coat of arms was awarded to the city on March 14, 1938 and was in use until 1939 when the German occupation reintroduced the old coat of arms from 1869, which in turn was replaced by the Polish coat of arms after 1945.
flag
