The church in Warder in Warder (Segeberg district), first mentioned in 1198 - one of the Vicelinkirchen

The church village Warder - founded around 1100 by Lombard refugees according to a local legend - is located 7 km northeast of Bad Segeberg on Bäderstraße B 432 in the direction of the Baltic Sea / Scharbeutz and belongs to the municipality of Rohlstorf . The church in Warder is approx. 850 years old and belongs to the so-called Vicelinkirchen named after the missionary Vizelin . Warder is idyllically situated on the Wardersee and is a popular excursion destination (Gasthof am See) for drivers and cyclists.

On the small peninsula off the town in Wardersee (and not, as previously assumed, near Gnissau ) was probably the episcopal noble court from the 10th century, mentioned in the Slav chronicle of Helmold von Bosau as Nezenna , who was the Oldenburg bishopric during the Slav uprising from 983 was lost. During excavations of the State Museum Schloss Gottorf in 1960 at this point under the direction of Karl Wilhelm Struve , many Middle and Late Slavic fragments of the Wagrians and Abodrites as well as numerous flint tools from the Neolithic age were found in addition to wooden house foundations .

Since Werder or Warder is an Old High German word for island (preserved in many place names), this small peninsula should also be the namesake of the place and the lake.
