Warin from Poitou

Warin von Poitou , (Latinized also Warinus or Gerinus, French also Gairin or Guérin, but also Gerin, Garin and Gerwin) († 679 in Poitou ) was Count of Paris and Count of Poitou. He is a saint and martyr and ancestor of the powerful noble family of the Guidons .

Like him, his father Bodilon was Count of Paris, his mother Sigrada of Alsace was later canonized. He was married to Gunza von Trier .

Life

Warin, born in Autun, grew up at the court of Chlothar II . He was the Frankish governor in the province of Poitou. Shortly after his brother Leodegar , he was accused of conspiracy against the king and killed.

His Catholic feast day is October 2nd , the Guardian Angel Festival , on which his brother is also venerated.
