Warren Abeshouse

Warren Abeshouse (born May 8, 1952 in Sydney , New South Wales , Australia ) is an Australian composer.

Life

After showing talent and interest in music as a child, Warren Abeshouse was given a piano for his eighth birthday. From 1967 he attended the Sydney Grammar School . Here he received lessons in harmony, counterpoint and music history from Peter Seymour and David Miller, who became his musical mentor and also his piano teacher. During his school days his interest in playing the timpani was aroused. On a scholarship, he studied at the NSW Conservatorium of Music with Alard Maling, the timpanist of the ABC Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He began composing at the Sydney Grammar School . From 1972 Abeshouse took a newly offered composition course at the Conservatory, which he graduated with a diploma in 1977. Lecturers at the Conservatory were John O'Donnell, Ross Edwards , Vincent Plush (* 1950), James Penberthy (1917–1999), Edwin Carr and Martin Wesley-Smith (* 1945). His piano teacher was Albert Landa († 2006). From 1975 to 1987 he worked for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation . From 1997 to 2001 he studied sociology and human geography at Macquarie University .

Warren Abeshouse wrote twenty-six opus numbered compositions. The Australian Music Center has sheet music for some works in its library.

  • Quartet for flute, oboe, clarinet and piano op.1
  • Serenata for violin and piano Song without words op. 2, 1972 The work was first performed on January 21, 1972 at a cocktail concert at the NSW Conservatory of Music. Warren Abeshouse played with violinist Richard Lee. In 1992 Abeshouse added an introduction. In 1994 he edited it again.
  • Passacaglia in D minor for two pianos op.3
  • Five Bagatelles, Op. 4, 1974
  • Anthem for doomed youth for baritone and piano op.5
  • Symphony No. 1, 1975, edited 1993
  • Psalm 70 for mixed choir and organ op. 9, 1975 Abeshouse dedicated the work to Wesley Want. It premiered on June 17, 1990 at the St Andrews Music Festival at St Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney. Abeshouse revised in 1993
  • Piano Sonata No. 1 The age of youth op. 12, 1975 I Passion : Allegro impetuoso II Desolation [desolation]: Lento ben misurato III Regeneration : Potentemente ma con angoscia, allegro agitato, tranquilo, tempo primo e maestoso. The piece was first performed by Gary Laycock in the Joseph Post Auditorium of the NSW Conservatorium of Music on March 21, 1976.
  • Lemma  : essay for orchestra op.13, 1977 Abeshouse began composing on November 10, 1976 and completed it on February 23, 1977

Warren Abeshouse wrote the score for the television drama Who Killed Hannah Jane? and together with Janine Morgan the soundtrack for the Australian television film The Schippan Mystery.
