Warren Chappell

Warren Chappell (born July 9, 1904 in Richmond , Virginia, † March 26, 1991 in Charlottesville , Virginia) was an American graphic artist, type designer and illustrator.

Chappell studied at the Art Students League of New York and later at the Offenbach School of Applied Arts . He designed the Trajanus font at D. Stempel AG , but had to return to his homeland because of the Second World War, where he worked as an illustrator for the Alfred A. Knopf publishing house. He was also an artist-in-residence at the University of Virginia .
