Warren Tufts
Warren Tufts (born December 12, 1925 in Fresno , California , † July 6, 1982 (according to other information: June 7, 1982 ) in Placerville , California) was an American cartoonist, comic artist and author.
Life
Tufts worked for a local radio station when he was twelve years old before turning to comics. During the Second World War he drew comics for Navy newspapers from 1943 onwards . After the war he worked on radio productions until 1948. In 1949 launched the Tufts Western comic Casey Ruggles , he, at times assisted by Alex Toth , drew up in 1954 and from the United Feature Syndicate sold was. Casey Ruggles followed The Lone Spaceman , which appeared in 1954 and 1955 for a total of six months. From 1955 on, Tufts drew Lance , which was held until 1960, but was shortened in between. From the 1960s he became increasingly freelance and worked for radio and television. Tufts died in an accident with an airplane he had designed himself.
Andreas C. Knigge counts Tufts next to Hal Foster , Alex Raymond , Milton Caniff and Burne Hogarth "one of the great masters of American adventure comics".
A number of Zorro adventures and a Lance complete edition have been published by Tufts in German .
