Hal Foster (comic book writer)
Harold Rudolf Foster , called Hal Foster (born August 16, 1892 in Halifax , Nova Scotia , Canada ; † July 25, 1982 in Spring Hill , Florida ), was one of the most famous comic book authors and cartoonists in the United States. He invented the character of Prince Eisenherz (Prince Valiant) .
After studying at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts , he worked as an illustrator. He drew his first comics in 1928 for the series Tarzan , a comic series based on the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs . He introduced a new, precise and detailed drawing style and had a major impact on the development of comics in the USA. In 1937 he drew the first pages of Prince Eisenherz . When he handed over the drawing work on the series to John Cullen Murphy in 1971 at the age of 78 (until 1979 he still created draft sketches and wrote the story), he had drawn 1,788 pages of Prince Eisenherz .
