Washington Square (Bangkok)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Washington Square was an entertainment district in Bangkok , Thailand at Thanon Sukhumvit Soi 22, which is close to the Phrom Phong Skytrain station . There were bars, restaurants, massage parlors, night clubs and a Kathoey theater to be found there. The square was not open, but enclosed on four sides by buildings. There were three other buildings in the middle. Older, male, white Americans in particular came to this place; including many Vietnam War veterans .

This place appears regularly in the detective novels by Christopher G. Moore , in which Vincent Calvino plays the leading role.

In 2008 it was decided to convert the area, the bars closed in the following years, and the associated buildings were demolished in 2013. An Emporium Group shopping center called EmSphere was initially planned on the site, but a dinosaur theme park was set up in 2016, which closed again in April 2018.
