The Water Information System for Europe (abbreviation: WISE , English : Water Information System for Europe ) is a collaboration between

  • Directorate-General for the Environment , the
  • Joint Research Center , of
  • Eurostat

and the

• European Environment Agency ,

to collect and disseminate information on the state of water in the European Union .

European Commission

The Environment Directorate-General is responsible for the political and strategic aspects. As a liaison point to the Union member states, it ensures the necessary flow of information and in particular requests the necessary reports on the state of the water body, the measures planned and implemented to improve water quality, etc.

The Joint Research Center is responsible for monitoring the environment and water resources, including modeling and forecasting services.

Within the framework of Eurostat, the most important data are recorded, organized and disseminated, including the WISE data and WISE topics.

European Environment Agency

The European Environment Agency hosts the necessary databases and thematic WISE websites and also publishes e.g. B. Information on the quality of bathing water, rivers , groundwater resources . The Water Data Center ( dt. : Water Data Center) provides this centralized access to multiple Internet services with interactive maps, informative data and tables and indicators for assessing the water quality. Most of the data come from reports by EU countries in the context of the implementation of relevant EU directives (e.g. the Water Framework Directive ) and other sources.
