Wasserburg Lichtenberg or ringed pond is an Outbound Wasserburg in the northwest of the town of the same Lichtenberg in the Erz Mountains at the Gimmlitz . The complex probably dates from the 14th century.

description

The complex was first mentioned in 1445 as a knight's seat in Lichtemberg . Due to its shape, it can be assumed that the vernacular coined the name Ringelteich .

The defense system belonged to the low castles . It had a rectangular core with rounded ends and an area of about 30 by 20 meters. This is delimited by a circumferential moat 10 meters wide and 15 meters wide in the south. In front of this, in turn, a dam runs from the southwest over the south side - possibly the outer wall of the weir system - to the east. This has a width of 4 meters and a height of 0.5 to 1 meter.

present

With the exception of the actual buildings (high-rise buildings) of the core plant, all parts of the facility have been preserved and have been under monument protection since 1960 .

The facility has meanwhile been used as a bathing pond and has been maintained. Recently, however, there has been an acute water shortage in the pond and it threatens to silt up. The original inlet, the mill ditch of a local mill, was filled in. Another artificially created inlet from higher ponds is also ailing. Efforts are therefore being made to create an artificial inlet to keep the water level constant.
