The Ringethal moated castle (or Inselteich , Schneckenteich ) is a lost moated castle in the west of Ringethal in Saxony . It probably originated in the 13th or 14th century.
Description and history
The weir system had a rounded, rectangular core structure measuring around 15 by 20 meters. This was located on an island in the pond, which is most likely the name of the island pond for the system. The distance between the shores of the pond and the island is about 10 meters in the north, on the other sides it is significantly larger. Stone walling is visible at the northeast corner of the core plant. The core plant plateau is about 2 meters above the water surface.
The lordship Ringethal consisted of the knight seat Ringethal and the farming villages Falkenhain , Hermsdorf and Erlebach . Initially laid out on the Arnsberg (hermitage) in a Zschopau loop on a rock spur, the manor house was relocated to Lewenhain Castle on the steep bank of the Zschopau in 1315 .
