The Hinds Lake hydropower plant is located on the island of Newfoundland, part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .
The hydropower plant went into operation in 1980. It is located on the east bank of Grand Lake . Fed is it from the 309 m high altitude Hinds Lake ( ⊙ ), a lake on the Buchan's Plateau . Its natural drain, the Hinds Brook , was largely blocked. A dam and weir ( ⊙ ) limit Hinds Lake to the west. A 5.9 km long supply channel leads the water from the west end of Hinds Lake to the upper end of the pressure line.
The power plant is equipped with a Francis turbine . Their output is 75 MW. The expansion water volume is 40 m³ / s. The fall height is 214 m. The catchment area covers 651 km². The mean discharge is 19.5 m³ / s. The average annual energy production is 340 GWh. The facility is operated by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro .
