The so-called Wasserschloss Hartmannsdorf is located in the municipality of Hartmannsdorf in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia .

history

From a place protected by water in the settlement, a feudal castle developed, then a manor owned by the Lords of Merrettich in 1452, from 1598 that of von Schauroth, then that of Boyneburg, from 1717 of Baron Johann Friedrich Bachoff von Echt (1643 -1726). After a fire in 1732, the family had today's manor house built. From 1926 the Köstritzer brewery leaseholder Rudolf Zersch had the castle and park restored, just as he saved Crossen Castle from deterioration. The architect in charge was Paul Schultze-Naumburg . The baroque building became more and more the center of attention in the developed village, with water management improvements removing the character of a moated castle . During the GDR , after the Zersch family had been expropriated without compensation, a public estate was set up in the buildings and on the land . It was responsible for modern plant and fruit production. Structural maintenance measures took a back seat.

Today the buildings of the manor have been renovated and the park is maintained. The facility is used for living and commercial purposes. In contrast to the manor, the buildings and the park can be visited under certain circumstances, but are otherwise not freely accessible. The now open, regular rectangular complex with the two-storey manor house standing freely on a high base in a landscaped park was the manor house and indicates a moated castle. It currently belongs to the Hermesmeier family.
