The building, built in 1907 and only 7 m high, is located on the village square of Aukrug-Böken on Böker Straße. It is more of a water tower , but the locals call it a water tower .

Building

The cylindrical container has an inner diameter of 4.5 m and is therefore hardly higher than it is wide. The brick masonry is structured by pilaster strips . A door facing the village square was added later. At the top, a flat tent roof covered with roofing felt completes the building.

History of the water supply in Böken

The water supply cooperative Böken built around 1907 - the same time as the water tower - a five-kilometer-long, cast-iron water pipe. It led water from springs in the Innien nature reserve through a natural gradient to the water tower. The connection from the tower to the households was made by glazed clay pipes. A filtering of the water was not planned.

In 1951, the cooperative had three 30 m deep wells drilled and switched the supply to groundwater .

When the community's need for water increased in the 1960s, the previous technology was no longer sufficient. Two pressure vessels were installed inside the tower. To do this you had to use a large door facing the street. A de-iron removal and a demanganization plant were added later. The supply system is still in operation today (as of 2016).
