church

After the Invalidenhauskirche had become too small for the parish, the St. Hemma Church was built between 1964 and 1966 according to the plans of the architect Erwin Plevan . The church is reminiscent of a sitting or swimming swan with its long, high pitched roof, with lateral flattening like wings, with the triangular steeple at the front with a belfry similar to a platypus head. The strong gable front, accessible via an outside staircase, is fully glazed.

A stained glass window by Ruth C. Mannhart shows Saint Hemma von Gurk as a benevolent helper and benefactor. A Madonna from 1966 is by the sculptor Karl Jetzinger. The organ from 1978 was built by the Adolf Donabaum company .

After on Sep 25 The church was consecrated in 1966, the parish was relocated from the Invalidenhauskirche to the new church on January 1st, 1967. The parish of St. Johann am Fasangarten became the parish of St. Hemma.
