Evangelical Peace Church in Lainz

The Evangelical Peace Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church building in Lainz in the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna .

Location and architecture

The Friedenskirche is located in the district of Lainz northwest of the geriatric center Am Wienerwald , Jagdschloßgasse 44. It is the work of the architect Rudolf Angelides . In 1957/1958 the rectory and kindergarten were built and in 1959/1960 the actual church building. These three elements form a building with the cuboid church tower. The interior of the church is kept simple. The altar stands on a raised surface at the head of the church, to which three steps lead up. The wooden, hexagonal pulpit is attached to the left of it. The Evangelical Peace Church is a listed building . It is one of several Protestant church buildings by Rudolf Angelides, who also realized the church on the road and the Pauluskirche in Vienna .

history

The parish of Lainz, which is based in the church, goes back to Lutheran expellees after the Second World War , who settled in the so-called "Wartburg settlement" on Lafitegasse. The daughter parish of Lainz, which was established at the beginning of 1957 - shortly before construction of the rectory began in October 1957 - belonged to the Hietzing parish with its seat in the Kreuzkirche in Penzing . The Friedenskirche, which was started in early summer 1959, was consecrated on November 27, 1960 by Bishop Gerhard May . In 1961 Lainz became an independent parish within the Evangelical Superintendentur AB Vienna . In 1995 the facade was renovated and a new youth room was installed on the gallery.
