Hummel Chapel

The Hummel Chapel , also Malfatti Chapel , in Vienna is a Roman Catholic chapel belonging to the Lainz-Speising parish church , with the patronage of the Holy Family . It is in the 13th district at Fasangartengasse 21, in the area of a park that accompanies the Fritz-Moravec-Steig, named in 1998, uphill on the right to Pacassistraße.

The votive chapel was built on the Küniglberg in 1889 by the founder Simon F. Hummel. The name Malfattikapelle is reminiscent of the doctor Johann Malfatti , who owned a no longer existing villa on this mountain (see also the list of street names in Vienna / Hietzing # M ). In 1938 the chapel was demolished and rebuilt in its current location. (The Nazi regime built the Küniglberg anti-aircraft barracks at the original location ; the ORF center Küniglberg is located there today .) The small neo-Gothic building has a high gable roof and a facade with stepped buttresses. The entrance side with a pointed arch portal bears a representation of the Holy Trinity in the gable field and an altarpiece of the Holy Family from the 19th century in the apse.
