Viersen water tower

The Viersen water tower , also known as the old water tower , is a disused water tower that was built in 1890 . It has been protected as a technical monument since 1985 . It is located near the Viersen waterworks at Aachener Weg 21 in Viersen .

It is 27.50 m high, has a circular floor plan, is made of brick masonry and has a flat roof. Its water tank has a capacity of 500 cubic meters. The tower has eight window axes and is provided with brick pilaster strips , plaster ashlars and cornices . At the top it ends with a balustrade .

Below the central cornice in the three-storey base zone, there are living rooms inside around the spiral staircase. The windows in this area were replaced during the restoration of the tower in 1983 and 1984. Above the tower still has its original steel profile windows. The container zone with the wrought iron Intze container can be recognized from the outside . This container construction, designed by the engineer Otto Intze , normally stands on a conically tapering tower shaft and usually has an outer cladding and a roof. The rarer form is a full-height cylindrical tower as the outer shell, while a second cylinder with a smaller diameter carries the water container inside. The Viersener water tower is one of these rarer Intze towers.

The tower is privately owned by the artist Hans Brög . Next to the tower is a single-story small house.
