The water tower on the vineyard is a listed water tower in Burg (near Magdeburg) in Saxony-Anhalt .

It stands in the vineyard north of the center of town on the staircase street.

Architecture and history

The water tower was built in 1902 by the burger master mason Gustav Ortloff as part of the construction of the central drinking water supply . Initially, it was planned to build it south of Burg at the Mohrenweiser nursery on Magdeburger Chaussee, but ultimately the decision was made to locate it on the vineyard.

The tower has a height of 46 meters. In the upper, somewhat thickened part of the tower there is a riveted, cast iron water tank with a capacity of 400 m³. The container is open at the top and is only shielded from the top by the wooden planks of the floor above. The drinking water in the container was originally obtained in six 30-meter-deep pipe wells in the well fields on the Holländer, north of the city of Burg, and pumped into the tower after processing at the Blumenstrasse waterworks.

In the 1970s, the water tower was decommissioned and no longer used for water supply. Today it is used for exhibition purposes.

In the local register of monuments , the water tower is listed as a monument under registration number 094 05637 .
