Water Island, US Virgin Islands (Danish: Vand ø) is a small inhabited island south of the island of Saint Thomas off Charlotte Amalie . To the northeast is the island of Hassel . Politically, Water Island is part of the American Virgin Islands . The land area is 1,989 km 2 .

The first known human settlement took place by the Taíno in the 15th century. In 1905 it was sold to the det Østasiatiske Kompagni . In 1917 the island was sold to the United States.
