Watkyn Vaughan († 1504)
Watkyn Vaughan (also Watkyn ap Thomas ap Roger Fychan ) († January 6, 1504 ) was a Welsh nobleman.
Watkyn Vaughan was the eldest son of Thomas ap Roger Vaughan and his wife Elen Gethin. His father died in the Wars of the Roses in 1469 , after which he inherited Hergest Court near Kington in Herefordshire . Between 1475 and 1499 he administered for his cousin William Herbert, Earl of Huntingdon and for his Eben the castle and lordship of Huntington, in addition he also administered the reign of Brecknock for his cousin Thomas Vaughan von Tretower . However, Watkyn was best known for promoting Welsh poets. The Red and White Book of Hergest were kept in his house , and poets like Tudur Penllyn praised him effusively.
He married Sybil Baskerville, a granddaughter of Walter Devereux . He is said to have had nine children with her, including:
- James Vaughan
- Roger Vaughan ∞ Ellen Cornewall
