Wayne Lewis Stevenson (later Wayne Lewis ; born May 17, 1949 ) is an American soul musician and label owner .

Wayne Stevenson was a graduate of Freemont High School when he received an athletic scholarship from California State University . He also played keyboard and sang in a band called Wayne Stevenson & the College Boys From Watts Plus One. Ruth Stratchborneo of Tide Records booked the band for a recording of the title Twinkie Lee , which the label star Larry Bright had already recorded for Rendezvous Records in breach of contract in 1960 and which Stratchborneo, successfully sued, had passed on to Highland Records . The band, consisting of Stevenson, Douglas Brooks on bass, Ronald Oliney on drums and Grover Goosby on guitar, recorded the song in the living room, which gives the sound a live atmosphere. Tide 2700 was the only release of the band, which under the management of Louis Cole played mostly at prom.

It wasn't until a few years later that Stevenson was able to release a second single, I Just Can't Live Without Your Love , this time for Essar Records . He then adopted his middle name for his surname and founded his own label Swooper Records in the early 1990s . The most famous artist on the roster was Billy Davis Jr. , whose solo career was to be revived after the success with The Fifth Dimension . In addition, he continued to write songs that he could also place in films. With China Rain , Don't Cheat Yourself , Heaven with Kevin , Hump the Rump , It's Me against Me and not You , Love Call , Rhythm Night , Sex Maniac , Sprung , Veda's Theme and West Coast Flava , the BMI leads him with eleven titles as an author.
