We Belong Together is a song written for the animated film Toy Story 3 by Randy Newman . Newman was for this song in 2011 with the Oscar for best movie song award.

Randy Newman has been writing and composing film music since 1980. The 2011 Oscar nomination was neither his first nor his last nomination. In fact, he has been nominated about twenty times. He was even to be nominated for I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away from A Toy Story: Alles auf kein Kommando . Overall, We Belong Together is part of a longer collaboration between Pixar Animation Studios and Newman. He also wrote the score for Toy Story , Toy Story 2 , Cars and Monster AG for Pixar . He always writes the music as well as the lyrics and does not share this work as usual.

The song is one of only five songs that won an Oscar, but that wasn't nominated for at least a Grammy Award .

With the song We Belong Together, Randy Newman deviates from his other character-oriented film songs and takes up the universal theme of friendship. This basic theme is in turn a continuation of the score for Toy Story and Toy Story 2 . Newman doesn't think the song is one of his better songs.
