Fig pudding (flambéed with brandy)

We Wish You a Merry Christmas ( We wish you a Merry Christmas ) is a traditional English Christmas carol from the West Country in England dating back to the 16th century.

The origin of this Christmas song is rooted in the English tradition, with rich parishioners on Christmas Eve Christmas goodies to the Carolers - that is the custom of Carol singing caring singers - gave such as fig pudding that today's Christmas Pudding resembled (Christmas pudding). It is one of the few English traditional Christmas carols that mention the New Year celebrations . It is often the last song performed by these singers for the people they visit.

There are numerous arrangements and countless recordings of the song in a wide variety of styles. A German song text was written by Monika Heumann.

We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!

chorus
Good tidings we bring
To you and your kin;
Good tidings for Christmas
And a Happy New Year!

Now bring us some figgy pudding,
Now bring us some figgy pudding,
Now bring us some figgy pudding,
And bring some out here!

chorus

For we all like figgy pudding,
We all like figgy pudding,
We all like figgy pudding,
So bring some out here!

chorus

And we won't go until we've got some,
We won't go until we've got some,
We won't go until we've got some,
So bring some out here!

chorus

We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!

Chorus
We bring good news to
you and your relatives;
We wish you a Merry Christmas (or: Blessed Christmas)
and a Happy New Year!

Now bring us some fig pudding,
Now bring us some fig pudding,
Now bring us some fig pudding,
And bring out something!

Choir

Because we all like fig pudding,
We all like fig pudding,
We all like fig pudding,
So bring something out!

Choir

And we won't go until we have something
We won't go until we have something
We won't go until we have something
So bring something out of here!
