Weberocereus panamensis is a species of plant in the genus Weberocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the distribution area in Panama.

description

Weberocereus panamensis grows as a hanging and shrubby epiphyte . The shoots are strongly triangular or occasionally flattened. They are 1 to 2 inches wide. The sharp edges of the shoot are indented. The small areoles on the shoots are somewhat sunk and somewhat covered by a thick scale. Thorns are usually absent. Sometimes, however, one to three short, yellowish thorns are formed.

The white flowers are 4 to 7 inches long and appear near the shoot tips. Its tuberous pericarpellet is covered with scales and long white hair . The red, tuberous fruits have a diameter of 2 to 3 centimeters. Their flesh is purple in color.

Distribution and systematics

Weberocereus panamensis is common in Panama .

The first description was in 1920 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose . A synonym is Weberocereus biolleyi subsp. panamensis (Britton & Rose) Doweld (2002)
