Wedard is a German extreme metal band from Memmingen .

history

Wedard was founded by Sternenfrost in Memmingen, Bavaria, at the end of 2002 as a one-man project. The first demo, In the beginning it was light ... , was released on November 25th, 2003. After a long artistic break, the second demo, ... by Liebe und Wäldern , was released in early 2005 , but only a very small number of copies were made and produced by the company and was only driven out within Sternenfrost's circle of friends and acquaintances. In the summer of 2005, the drummer Necro joined the band.

On February 13th 2006 the third demo Valkyren Frost was released via Irminsul Records. On June 30, 2006, the first studio album, or studio MC, A Life in Eternity followed . This was also released as a special edition as a CD-DVD package with A3 poster and bonus song, limited to 100 copies. The MC was distributed by Wintermond Kassel, the DVD package by Deathbringer Records and Urkraft Records.

The second studio album, Einsamer Winterweg , was released in the first edition limited to 75 copies on October 1, 2006. Shortly afterwards, a second edition was published by Occultum Productions, which was limited to 500 copies. The third edition of the album was released on the US label Regimental Records with an edition of 1000 pieces. All three editions differ in terms of design and scope of the supplement.

In the same month, the split CD Visions of Nightscapes was released together with the Italian black metal band BlackStream . Another split album followed in November 2006 with the dark ambient project Symbiosis, also from Italy.

Wedard's first EP, Eiskrieg , was released on June 10, 2007 via Sabbathid Records. A few months later, the drummer Necro left the band after around two years of activity.

In July 2008 Wedard released split album with the American band Ancestral on the label None More Black Records. Like the previous EP, this split was limited to 1000 copies. At the end of 2008, the American drummer Matt "Karmageddon" Aldrich joined Wedard. Before that, the third studio album, Where Eternity Touches Time, was released on September 15, 2008. It was released by the Thuringian neo-Nazi Jens Fröhlich on Ewiges Eis Records .

On February 21, 2009 the split with the Swiss ambient black metal band Nychts was released via Sun & Moon Records. At the end of 2009 there was another split with Nocturnal Depression, which was published by Wotanstahl Klangschmiede. The EP Eiskrieg II was released on February 15, 2011 via Ewiges Eis Records.

style

Wedard play melancholic, depressive metal with elements of the ambient . Sternenfrost justified the style finding in an interview with the Swiss webzine schwermetall.ch as follows:

"[The music] serves as a means for me to musically reproduce the negative experiences in life, so that there is a certain balance. [...] For me it [but] is not about suicide or the like. [...] It is about intensely bad depressive feelings, but there is also a light at the end of the tunnel and I try to musically reflect that in the grandeur of landscapes, dreams, and now and then even love! "

- Star frost

According to his own statements, he is inspired by the lyrics and the music by daily life, nature and dreams. With regard to the subject matter of the texts, he specified this in an interview with the webzine mortemzine.net , and states that the texts are mainly about bleak, desolate landscapes, the sometimes meaningless life, mental / emotional emptiness, dreams and personal negative experiences . The group's style is called " Suicide / Depressive Black Metal ", but the satanic themes common to Black Metal don't play a role.

reception

Wedard is more often accused of lack of creativity and musical inability. This applies not only to the compositions, but also to the execution, i. H. the guitar work, the keyboard and drums playing and sometimes the singing. Accusations of plagiarism are also occasionally raised . So z. For example, the song Never I would like to return is, according to Erik from the webzine myrrthronth.de, an almost 1: 1 copy of Nargaroth's Rasluka II . Another example is the song Black Hole Sagittarius Alpha , in which the main melody from Rammstein's song Ohne dich was used .

Also due to the sometimes absurd or "silly" small limitations of their publications, Wedard is often viewed by the specialist press as dubious and unbelievable.
