The Wedge Tombs of Knockane (locally called Carrigeennaoralidy Graves ) are only a few meters apart in the townland of Knockane ( Irish An Cnocán ) near Teerelton, south of Macroom in County Cork in Ireland . A wedge tomb (German " wedge-shaped grave ", formerly also called wedge-shaped gallery grave ) is an aisle-less, mostly undivided megalithic complex from the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age and typical of the western half of Ireland.

description

The west of the two Wedge Tombs is the larger. It is 2.6 m long, 0.6 m high and 0.7 m wide at the front. The single capstone covers the whole tomb, while the wall consists of two individual stone slabs, one on each side. The end stone is in place and cairn material still surrounds the tomb.

The eastern one is 1.6 m long, 0.6 m high and 0.8 m wide at the front. The capstone is 2.5 m long, 1.4 m wide and 0.25 m thick. The side walls are slightly tilted. Dry stone masonry forms the back and cairn material still surrounds three sides.

Nearby is the Reanacaheragh Boulder Burial .
