history

The Dutch entrepreneurs and brothers Bernhard, Jan and Hermann Reerink founded the oak tannery Reerink and Paschen in Vreden in 1828 . From 1967 to 1983 she worked under the company RIF Reerink & Flues GmbH. Furthermore, in 1885 they founded the Riemenwerk Gebr. Reerink AG in Frankfurt-Bonames . This was taken over by today's Deutsche Carbone AG between 1925 and 1927. Finally, in 1895, the Westfalia company in Vreden, which manufactured pickers ( weaving shuttle dampers ) and spare parts for looms . The basic idea behind the founding of the company was to reuse the leather scraps and waste from the oak tannery.

In the 1950s, Wefapress Beck + Co succeeded in manufacturing the pickers from plastic instead of raw hide. Kurt Günther Beck was working under Karl Ziegler and the Italian Giulio Natta at the Ruhrchemie plant in Oberhausen on today's polyethylene. In lengthy experiments an attempt was made to get the powder into a solid form. The first test material came to Wefapress through him in 1952. There, the powdery raw material was finally pressed into panels using the press sintering process. This is a process that is still used today. Wefapress can therefore be named as the world's first supplier of these two engineering plastics. In further processing, the panels produced are made into machine components for international industry. There is a special focus on food processing, mechanical engineering, the beverage and bottling industry and mining, just to name a few.

The family company is run in the fourth generation by Lutz Beck and Gerrit Beck (as of 2010). It has offices in Waregem , Johannesburg , Port Elizabeth .
