The cross

The wayside cross at the new cemetery is in Hochkirchen , a district of the municipality of Nörvenich in the district of Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia in the extended Kirchstrasse.

In 1859 Pastor Leonhard Conraths, who worked in Hochkirchen from 1845 to 1859, had a cross put up on the way from the church to Nörvenich, today on the parking strip in front of the cemetery, which is still there today.

The year 1859 could be deciphered in the chronogram from the inscription, which had already been mutilated in 1969. Presumably the Latin inscription read (freely translated): This cross was put up by Leonhard Conraths, currently pastor in Hochkirchen.

A stone hardening carried out by the municipality of Nörvenich was unsuccessful, the lettering is now completely weathered. The cross is a listed building . It was entered on March 14, 1985 in the list of monuments of the municipality of Nörvenich under No. 35.
