The Wegener Ice Sheet is a region in Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica . It includes the areas of Amundsenisen and Wegenerisen on the polar plateau in the southern part of Fimbulheimen .

This area was recorded and named during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar researcher Alfred Ritscher . It is named after the German geoscientist and polar researcher Alfred Wegener (1880–1930).
