The Wehmeyer GmbH & Co. KG was a fashion store operator with headquarters in Dusseldorf . In 2011 Wehmeyer had 285 employees and 18 branches, 16 in North Rhine-Westphalia and two in Rhineland-Palatinate . The range particularly comprised mid-range clothing and was aimed primarily at customers over the age of 30.

history

The company was founded in 1950 as a clothing retail business in Aachen . It later belonged briefly to the Hertie company until 1993 . In August 2005, Wehmeyer was sold by the Karstadt Quelle Group to companies of the Schottenstein Group , a financial investor from the USA and Miro Radici AG from Bergkamen , which is active in the textile business . In January 2008 the Schottenstein Group became the sole shareholder of MRSBC Holding , the parent company of Wehmeyer.

The turnover in 2007 was around 150 million euros with 1100 employees at that time. On July 4, 2008, the company filed for bankruptcy . On October 1, 2008, Wehmeyer closed 16 of its 39 branches at the time. Almost half of the 950 jobs were lost. The employees concerned were employed for four months in an employment and qualification company (BQG). In November 2008 the Indian textile entrepreneur Rajive Ranjan took over the company as owner and managing director. Ranjan renamed the company to Wehmeyer Lifestyle GmbH. Ranjan indicated the expansion of the private label share from 50 to 60 percent and the concentration on locations in small towns as the restructuring strategy. He also wanted to invest 15 million euros, especially in modernizing the sales areas. The salary of the employees has partly been converted to performance-related amounts.

At the end of 2009, Wehmeyer announced that it had reduced the loss from 15 million euros in 2008 to an expected two million in 2009 with sales of 75 million euros. For 2010 profits and 2011 the opening of new branches are planned.

In March 2011, Wehmeyer relocated the headquarters from Aachen to Düsseldorf. Another bankruptcy petition was filed on June 24, 2011. In September 2011 Adler Modemärkte AG took over the 18 branches and 285 employees of Wehmeyer and closed the headquarters in Düsseldorf.
