History of the clinic

In 1901 the clinic was founded as the "Wehrawald Lung Sanatorium" by the St. Blasier Kurhaus owner Otto Hüglin . The clinic was considered a model of "building and facility hygiene". Wealthy patients from home and abroad sought a cure from tuberculosis in "Wehrawald" . After a short time Todtmoos enjoyed a high reputation as the "German Davos ". In 1928 the clinic came to the German Reich Insurance Company for employees . In 1954 ownership changed to the Federal Insurance Company for Salaried Employees . In 1961 a new building with a focus on thoracic surgery was built below the old clinic . In the sixties was the Swiss surgeon Hans Good the lung resection introduced as a routine procedure. In 1979 the old clinic was demolished, in 1983 the last lung patient was discharged and the clinic was converted into a rehabilitation center. In 2002, the Federal Office for Employees planned a new four-storey building on the site of the old clinic and built it by 2005. The building from 1961 was blown up and the vacated space is used as a parking lot for the new clinic. The facility was initially headed by Ingomar-Werner Franz from the opening on December 20, 2005 . The clinic has been run by Hansjörg Schäfer since 2006 .
