The White torture in Sankt Englmarer district Great Meadow is a chapel , whose origins probably a white shrine was. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation lists them under monument number D-2-78-184-11.

Location

The chapel is located in the "Klosterholz" on the road to Mitterberg , around two kilometers south of the village of Sankt Englmar and 200 meters west of the Großwiese district, immediately north of the boundary with the Neukirchen community .

description

The chapel room, made of rubble stones, has a rectangular shape with a polygonal rear wall, has a wide, barred doorway with arched arches and a small arched window on the rear and side walls. Above it extends a steep gable roof, which is covered with sheet metal, and is supported on two decorated wooden pillars. The building was erected in 1961.

history

At the location of the chapel, Father Urban Mittermayr, a Windberg canon and pastor, is said to have died on March 23, 1634 while fleeing from the Swedes. It is believed that the name of the chapel goes back to a white wayside shrine originally erected here . The existence of a field chapel is documented for the year 1857. It is not documented when a chapel was first built here and from what building material. A stone chapel was built around 1866 and furnished with eight legend panels by Johann Michael Kohl from Kollnburg . These panels are now in the parish church. In 1961 the old chapel was torn down and the replacement building was erected.
