White Elephant Order
The White Elephant Order , with full name The Very High Order of the White Elephant , ( Thai เครื่องราชอิสริยาภรณ์ อันเป็น ที่ เชิดชู ยิ่ง ช้างเผือก , pronunciation: [kʰrɯ̂aŋ.râːt.ìt.sà.rì.jaː.pʰɔːn an.pen.tʰîː t͡ɕʰɤːt.t͡ɕʰuː.jîng t͡ɕʰáːŋ.pʰɯ̀ak] , English The Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant ) is a high royal Thai order .
history
The White Elephant Order was founded in 1861 under King Mongkut and in 1869 under his successor Chulalongkorn it was reorganized to become the highest order in the country at the time.

Originally donated without a sash in four classes, the number of members was limited:
- Knight Grand Cross to 23 members
- Knight Commander to 50 members
- Commander to 100 members
- Companion to 200 members
Today the medal is awarded in eight classes, including a special level:
- Special level , worn on a sash from the left shoulder to the right hip, breast star on the left breast

- 1st class , worn on a sash from the right shoulder to the left hip, breast star on the left breast

The medal consists of a star enamelled in several colors , gold for the special level - as well as grades one to six - and silver for the seventh grade, on whose round central shield the white elephant appeared with a colorful ingredient. The ribbon is brick red and is separated by a parrot-green border by a narrow light blue and a sulfur yellow thread.
