The White Lake ( Russian Бе́лое о́зеро / Beloje osero , wiss. Transliteration Beloe ozero ) in the Vologda Oblast - not to be confused with the White Lake in Eastern Siberia - has an area of 1290 km², according to other sources 1130 km². This makes it the seventh to ninth largest natural lake in Europe. The lake serves as a reservoir for the Volga-Baltic Sea Canal , which, due to the relatively shallow depth of the lake, runs through a diversion canal . The lake is part of many cruises over the lakes in this region.
