The white-winged fairywren ( Malurus leucopterus ) is an Australian bird art .

The white-winged relay tail reaches a body length of 12 cm.
In the mainland subspecies Malurus l. leuconotus , the dominant male, at least three years old, has blue plumage with white wings and brown cover feathers. The female is brown-yellow on the back and white on the underside.

The males of the nominate form Malurus l. leucopterus , which occurs on Dirk Hartog Island in Shark Bay and that of another subspecies, Malurus l. edouardi that live on Barrow Island are black in color and have a blue tail.

Occurrence

The white-winged easel-tail lives in the thicket and in the undergrowth near the ground. The distribution area includes Western and Inner Australia.

Reproduction

The breeding season lasts from August to February. In addition to the breeding pair, there are up to four brood helpers. The white-winged easel tail builds a spherical nest with a side entrance made of grass and cobwebs in the thickets of the ground. The clutch of three to four eggs is incubated for 14-15 days. The nestling period lasts 10-11 days.
